Privacy Policy
The short version
Breath Prayers works without an account. If you create one, we keep the small amount of data that makes your prayers, favourites and progress follow you between phones. When you ask the app to write a prayer for you, the words you type are sent to a language model to draft it, and nothing else about you goes with them. We do not sell your data, we do not show ads, and the apps you choose to pray before never leave your phone.
What we collect
A guest account. When you tap Begin, the app creates an anonymous account with Firebase Authentication so your progress has somewhere to live. It contains no name, email or other identifier about you.
If you save your plan. Signing in with Apple, Google or an email address links that provider to your account. We store the email address the provider gives us (Apple may give a private relay address) and, where offered, your name.
Your prayer life in the app. Stored under your account in Firebase (Google Cloud Firestore):
- the answers you give during setup (a first name if you enter one, what gets in the way of prayer, how close God feels, how often you reach for your phone, the focus you choose, the moments you claim, your commitment);
- favourites, prayers you create or save, and reminder preferences;
- session history: which prayer, how many breaths, how long, and the day, from which streaks and totals are counted.
Usage analytics. We use Firebase Analytics to understand how the app is used in aggregate, for example how many people finish setup or complete a first prayer. Events are tied to an app instance identifier, not to your name.
Subscriptions. Purchases are made through Apple's App Store. We never see your payment details. We use Superwall to present offers and to know whether your subscription is active; Superwall receives your account identifier and purchase status.
Reminders. Prayer reminders are local notifications scheduled on your phone. We do not send push notifications from a server.
Creating a prayer
Premium lets you ask the app to draft a breath prayer, either from something on your heart that you type in, or from a Bible reference you choose. This is how that works, and what it means for your data:
- The text you type, or the reference and verse you choose, along with any note you add when asking for another version, is sent to our server and then to Anthropic, whose Claude language model drafts the prayer. Only that text is sent: no name, email, account identifier or device information travels with it. Anthropic processes it under its commercial terms, which do not permit it to train its models on the content.
- When you start from a Bible reference, the verse text comes from the Berean Standard Bible built into the app; no lookup service is contacted.
- Every draft is checked by us for consistency with Scripture before you see it. If you save the result, it is stored under your account like any other prayer you create. If you don't, we don't keep it.
- Please don't type anything you would not want processed by a third party, such as another person's private details. The prayer works just as well with “a friend's health” as with a name.
Prayers the app already contains were written by us in advance, not generated for you on the spot, and nothing is sent anywhere when you pray them.
What stays on your phone
Screen Time. “Pray before you scroll” uses Apple's Screen Time (Family Controls) framework. The apps you select are held by iOS as opaque tokens that our app, and we, cannot read. We never know which apps you chose, and this information is never sent anywhere.
Breathing pace, sound and other preferences are stored on the device.
How we use it
To run the app, keep your progress across devices, personalise the prayers you see, draft prayers you ask for, remind you at the times you asked for, and improve the app. We do not sell personal data and we do not use it for advertising.
Who else sees it
Our service providers process data on our behalf, each bound by its own privacy terms: Google (Firebase Authentication, Firestore, Analytics and our server functions, hosted in the United States), Apple (App Store purchases, Sign in with Apple), Superwall (subscription offers) and Anthropic (drafting prayers you ask for). We share data with no one else, unless the law requires it.
This website
breathprayers.app is hosted by Netlify, which keeps standard server logs. The site sets no cookies and runs no analytics. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, so Google sees your IP address when the page loads. If you use the contact form, your name, email and message are stored by Netlify and delivered to us so we can reply; we keep them only as long as the conversation needs.
Retention and deletion
Your data is kept while your account exists. You can delete your account and everything stored under it from Settings in the app, or by emailing [email protected] from the address you signed in with. Guest accounts that were never saved simply expire with the phone they were created on. Analytics data is retained by Firebase for up to 14 months. Text sent to Anthropic to draft a prayer is not stored by us.
Children
Breath Prayers is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data. Email [email protected] and we will respond within 30 days.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will note it in the app and update the date at the top of this page.
